I don’t even know where to begin. This was one of those insane finds the Youtube algorithm pulls every once in a while that leave you with your ass sore from amazement. I wasn’t able to find any information about these guys whatsoever, which is absolutely crazy because this is one of the best (if not THE best) IDM records I’ve heard in my life.

I was convinced this was part of the recent trend of appealing to 2000s and 90s aesthetics because of the name, but turns out that’s not the case. Even with tracks titled “AI=0”, or “Deep Pression”, this is genuinely from the late 90s and completely devoid of modern internet influence. I’m surprised people haven’t found out about it yet.

True to the band’s name, it contains lots of varied jazz sampling and an overall techy noiresque ambience…? I feel it’s the only way I can describe it. Some segments are very experimental and each track adds something to the picture perfectly, the way they blend into each other is seamless. It’s weird as fuck. I love it. You should listen to it.

Short review because I’m unmotivated and this is supposed to be a placeholder, but this is one of my favorite records of all time! If I had to present myself to someone through music, I’d pick this. There really isn’t anything like Stereolab.

Listening to it makes me feel like I have synesthesia. Their virtuous, smart use of a myriad of different music instruments and resources makes you imagine colors, shapes and patterns - maybe that’s why this record is called like that. I think my favorite thing about it is how they use the vibraphone… So cool and whimsical!

It fills me with so much joy. There is so much to talk about, like how greatly the tracks blend into each other (it’s as if they were painting a picture!) (each one is eternally unique), or how Lætitia’s otherworldly voice blends into Mary’s so perfectly, or the beautiful poetry of their lyrics; but I’m trying to keep this short. I may go insane about them in a future thoughts entry. LIVE LAUGH STEREOLAB!

All the small boats on the water
Aren't going anywhere
Surely they must be loaded with
More than simple matter
Floating on top and gracefully
Tending to the same pole
All the small boats on the water
Going nowhere

Music & Me...
it’s probably the most dear thing to me ever, music is unlike nothing else. it has always served as the most reliable means to understand my feelings and express myself. i love it immensely and always knew i wanted to dedicate my studies to it. it is to thank for the person i am today, for i feel it has always loved me (how cheesy GOSH)
